The Two Halves of Sadhbh

$290.00

In Irish myth, Sadhbh was a woman from the Other World who earned the ire of a powerful druid when she rejected his affections. He turned her into a deer and hunted her through the forest until she escaped him and was then found by the hunting party of Irish hero Fionn McCumhaill. Fionn’s hunting dogs realized she was no ordinary deer and refused to let harm come to her, and when she returned with the hunting party to Fionn’s fort, the magic of the hill where it was built returned her to human shape. She and Fionn married, but their story ends tragically when Fionn was forced to leave to fend off Vikings, leaving an opening for the druid to return and once again trap Sadhbh in her deer form.

In this piece, Sadhbh is granted a moment for her two selves to embrace, giving her a moment of tenderness and healing.

Pyrography on live-edge basswood measuring roughly 15 inches wide by 11.5 inches long

Sealed with UV-resistant acrylic to protect against moisture damage and fading. Hanging away from direct sunlight is recommended.

Hanging wire affixed to back
