Mythology
Irish and Celtic myth have been a driving force behind my work from early on. I’m a lifelong sucker for a good story. Oftentimes a certain character will capture my attention, or a moment will crystallize in my brain and beg me to make a woodburned illustration. Take a look at some of the pieces I’ve created based on mythology, folklore, and urban legend.
The Two Halves of a Selkie - In Scottish and Norse lore, a selkie can change between human and seal forms by putting on or removing their seal skin.
Artio - Gaulish bear goddess associated with abundance
Captain Norman Staples' ghost is said to hover in grief-stricken vigil over the graves of his four young children.
Scathach - In the Ulster Cycle of Irish myth, Scathach was a Scottish warrior woman who trained young heros in the martial arts. Cu Chulainn was one of her students.
Epona - Horse goddess original to the Celts and later revered by the Romans
The Two Halves of Sadhbh - In the Fenian Cycle of Irish myth, Sadhbh was a tragic figure. Wife to Fionn MacCumhaill and mother to Oisin, she was twice turned into a deer by a vengeful druid.
